In Barcelona, you can also hire a boat in the Parc de la Ciutadella. The beaches can get very busy at Barcelona from May-October, so if you want to admire the coastline — and treat yourself to complete seclusion — ask Totally Spain about hiring a yacht or catamaran for the day. Hiring a row-boat is great fun and a nice way to get away from the crowds!

Or focusing on architecture or agriculture or castles or movie locations or vintage cars or open-air theatres or cave art? From Madrid you can take a high-speed train travelling in the quiet carriage, of course!
From Barcelona, you can also hop on a train to the excellent and calmer Figueres or Girona — and go on to explore some of the Costa Brava. Take a break from urban Spain by strolling around a nearby vineyard and learning about the wine-growing traditions of the area.
There are lots of exclusive wineries and vineyards in Catalonia and we love planning daytrips to some of the historic cava wineries for our clients in Barcelona. Sometimes getting a few metres above ground level is a great way of finding some peace and quiet. In Barcelona, you can hop in a cab to Tibidabo and enjoy views of the city from Sagrat Cor church — you can even take a funicular inside Tibidabo. In Madrid, you can head to the Casa del Campo and take the cable car there.
You should also consider hotels with views! In Madrid you obviously need to visit the Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol but we would avoid sitting down there. We much prefer spending time over a coffee, snack or meal at the Plaza del Oriente or the Plaza Dos de Mayo. Relax on the sandy beach, go sailing, take a dip in the calm, shallow water, or eat freshly caught squid at one of the small fish restaurants overlooking the beach. Although the island of Ibiza may be synonymous with parties and crowds, there are also some idyllic, peaceful spots where you can relax and enjoy the amazing scenery.
This little piece of perfection is situated in a sheltered cove on the north coast of the island, overlooked by rugged cliffs and quaint fishing huts. The beach has golden sand and fine pebbles, and the water is calm, making it ideal for snorkeling and swimming.
To reach the beach follow the sign on the main road just north of Portinatx, where there is a dirt track that leads down to the beach. This tiny, unspoilt beach is a little piece of heaven.
The soft white sand beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and is the perfect place to work on your tan or swim in the calm water. Das Raias beach is 10 minutes from Muxia, along the road that leads to Ponte do Porto. The fine golden sand and warm shallow water make it the perfect place to relax. There is also plenty of shade and the El Chiringuito bar on the beach serves excellent paella.
The beach is located 2km north of Sant Antoni de Portmany. From there, follow the rocky headland into the next bay.
