With no shortage of white water for you to go white water rafting in, it only makes sense to grab your lifejacket and paddle then get moving! Or, you could simply take it easy and go kayaking. These are just a few of the most interesting that you might stumble across. Like many tourists, when we visited Costa Rica we covered the basics — ziplining, an ATV ride and lounging on the beach — but the real highlight of our trip was a guided tour through the jungle.
We were very fortunate to have Sergio as our guide, a man who has spent his life in the tourism industry alternating between cruise ships and his home country. So, for anyone who is looking to visit Costa Rica, go ahead and enjoy the beaches and excursions, but also take the time to listen to someone who really knows the ecology of the area.

Around January 5th the prices drop, the crowds disappear and there are four to six weeks of perfect weather. The rainy season just ended so the forests are still green and lush and the rafting rivers and canyoneering waterfalls still have plenty of flow.
The number of travelers starts to pick up in February. The dry season is well established and the trees of the tropical dry forests on the Pacific side in Guanacaste and Nicoya are dropping their leaves. The southern, central and eastern parts of the country are still green but some river levels drop too low for rafting. The northwest is bone dry, the trees are bare and the rivers are reduced to trickles there.
The transition into the rainy season is gradual with showers starting in May and picking up in June. The dry season dust is settling and the rivers are filling up.
